Enquire →Our Heritage
The word pashmina derives from the Persian pashm, meaning soft gold. For over 600 years, Kashmiri artisans have transformed the delicate undercoat of the Changthangi goat into the world's finest textile.
At ShawlBaf, we work directly with weavers whose families have practised this craft for generations. Every piece leaves our hands with a certificate of authenticity — so you know exactly what you're holding.

About ShawlBaf
"Real pashmina should not be a privilege. It is a craft born of Kashmir, and it belongs to anyone who truly seeks it."
ShawlBaf was founded in 1986 by a craftsman with a simple conviction: that authentic pashmina should reach the hands of those who truly appreciate it — not sit behind glass in boutiques few can enter.
What began as a small family workshop in Kashmir has grown into a trusted name, built not through advertising but through word of mouth — client to client, generation to generation. Our founder spent decades cultivating direct relationships with the weavers and artisans of the Valley, learning every step of the craft from fibre selection to the final fold.
From the very beginning, ShawlBaf has catered to bespoke arrangements. Each client is different. A collector seeking a rare Kani weave. A young professional experiencing real pashmina for the first time. A family commissioning heirloom pieces. We sit with each of them, understand what they need, and find — or create — the perfect piece.
Today, the same values guide everything we do: source honestly, weave beautifully, and never compromise on authenticity. Every piece that leaves ShawlBaf carries the weight of that original promise made nearly four decades ago.
Our founder establishes ShawlBaf with a small workshop and a direct line to the Valley's finest weavers. The focus from day one: authenticity above all.
Word spreads among discerning buyers. ShawlBaf begins curating personalised pieces for collectors — custom embroidery, rare weaves, one-of-a-kind commissions.
As imitation pashmina floods the market, ShawlBaf doubles down on transparency — introducing authentication documentation and lab-verified fibre testing.
ShawlBaf now serves buyers globally — from first-timers discovering real pashmina to experienced collectors seeking the finest the Valley produces. Same family. Same values. Same craft.
We never misrepresent a product. If it isn't 100% pashmina, we won't call it that. Simple as that.
Every client relationship is personal. We take the time to understand what you're looking for before we recommend anything.
We'd rather work with fewer clients and serve them well than chase volume at the expense of quality.
Real pashmina should not be a mystery or a luxury for the few. We exist to make it attainable, understandable, and joyful.
